Saransh Jain May Debut for India Against Sri Lanka
India might call up all-rounder Saransh Jain for his Test debut in the second Test against Sri Lanka, set to begin on Sunday. According to reports, he could replace Kuldeep Yadav in the team.
In the first Test at Galle, the pitch favored spinners, but Yadav struggled, taking only one wicket and conceding 103 runs combined over both innings. Meanwhile, Manav Suthar stood out with 10 wickets, and Ravindra Jadeja took four wickets.
Jain, 33, has been playing for Madhya Pradesh in domestic cricket for over a decade. He made his First-Class debut in 2014-15 and has since played 54 matches, scoring 2,223 runs at an average of 31.75 with 14 half-centuries and two centuries. With the ball, he has taken 188 wickets.
In the recent Ranji Trophy season, Jain scored 518 runs and took 30 wickets for Madhya Pradesh. He also excelled in an India A series against Sri Lanka A earlier this year, claiming seven wickets.
Despite his domestic success, some former players like Venkatesh Prasad and Cheteshwar Pujara have advised keeping Yadav in the team. They argue that while Yadav’s performance was below par, he still has the ability to take wickets and deserves another chance.
India won the first Test by 165 runs, with Devdutt Padikkal being named Player of the Match for his 167-run knock.
