Breaking Records: Joanne Hicks’ Historic Cricket Achievement

Joanne Hicks made history as the oldest cricketer—male or female—to take five wickets in an international match. The achievement came during a Women’s T20 Continental Cup 2026 game between Isle of Man and Greece on August 27 in Romania.

Hicks, who was born in March 1975, is 51 years old. She bowled Greece out for just 52 runs, taking all five wickets herself. Her effort included dismissing key players like Lydia Katsimari, Sofia-nefeli Georgota, and Aggeliki-ioanna Argyropoulou. Hicks finished with impressive figures of 4-0-10-5.

This record shattered the previous one held by Herbert Ironmonger, an Australian cricketer who achieved the same feat at 49 years old in 1932. Hicks’ performance was not her first five-wicket haul; she previously took five wickets against Malta in August 2024 at age 49.

In the match, Greece struggled to score, with Argyropoulou top-scoring 17 runs. Isle of Man easily chased down their target, losing only one wicket and winning comfortably. Hicks was named Player of the Match for her remarkable performance.

The victory moved Isle of Man to the top of Group B in the tournament. They will next face Norway in their final group game, with the winner advancing to the Continental Cup final.
