India Post GDS 2026 Recruitment Started

New Delhi: The Department of Posts has started the India Post Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) Recruitment 2026 process to fill 23,757 vacancies across different postal circles in the country.

The recruitment process began with the one-time registration on August 31, 2026. Eligible candidates who are interested in joining India Post can complete their registration and apply for the available positions within the given deadlines.

Three Types of Posts Available

The recruitment drive includes vacancies for three main positions:

  • Branch Postmaster (BPM)
  • Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM)
  • Dak Sevak

These employees play an important role in providing postal and other services to people, especially in rural and semi-urban areas.

Registration Open Until September 19

Candidates can complete the online registration process until September 19, 2026.

The application process and fee payment will begin on September 2 and continue until September 21.

Applicants should complete all steps before the deadline. Candidates are advised not to wait until the last day because technical problems or heavy website traffic could cause delays.

Selection Based on Class 10 Marks

One of the main features of the GDS recruitment process is that candidates do not have to appear for a separate written examination.

Selection will be based on a merit list prepared using Class 10 marks.

This means candidates with higher marks in their Class 10 examination are likely to have a better chance of being selected, depending on the available vacancies and applicable category rules.

Candidates should therefore enter their academic details carefully while submitting the application.

Circle-Wise Vacancies

The total 23,757 posts are distributed among different postal circles across India.

The vacancies are also linked to local-language requirements. Candidates should check the official notification to understand the language, educational and other eligibility requirements for the postal circle they want to apply for.

The number of available posts can vary from one postal circle to another.

Important Deadlines

Candidates should keep the following dates in mind:

  • One-Time Registration: August 31 to September 19, 2026
  • Application Submission: From September 2, 2026
  • Fee Payment: September 2 to September 21, 2026
  • Last date for payment: September 21, 2026

Candidates should complete the entire process within the specified time.

Incomplete Applications May Be Rejected

Applicants need to provide correct information and upload the required documents during the application process.

Applications that are incomplete or do not meet the required conditions may not be considered.

Candidates should also make sure that their fee payment is completed on time. Payments made after the specified deadline, including after 5 p.m., will not be accepted according to the recruitment instructions.

Opportunity for Job Seekers

The GDS recruitment is an important opportunity for candidates looking for government-related employment, particularly those interested in working in the postal sector.

Since selection is based on Class 10 marks rather than a competitive written examination, candidates with strong academic records may have a good opportunity to compete for the available posts.

Check Details Before Applying

Before submitting the application, candidates should carefully check their eligibility, postal circle, local-language requirements and other conditions.

They should also make sure that the information entered in the application matches their official documents.

With 23,757 vacancies available, the recruitment drive is expected to attract a large number of applicants from across the country.

Candidates interested in the India Post GDS Recruitment 2026 should complete their registration and application within the official deadlines to avoid missing the opportunity.
