Five-Star Guard NaVorro Bowman Jr. Chooses UConn

Five-star basketball prospect NaVorro Bowman Jr. has committed to play college basketball for the University of Connecticut (UConn). The talented combo guard from Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks, California, becomes the first player to join UConn’s 2027 recruiting class.

Bowman’s decision is a major boost for UConn head coach Dan Hurley. He is currently ranked No. 11 nationally by the 247Sports Composite and is considered the second-best combo guard in the country. He is also ranked as the top basketball prospect from California.

Bowman had several major college programs interested in him, including Arizona and Texas. He recently made an official visit to UConn and decided that the school was the right place for the next stage of his basketball career. After making his decision, he canceled visits that had been planned with other schools.

His commitment is also notable because of his family background. His father, NaVorro Bowman Sr., enjoyed a successful career in the NFL with the San Francisco 49ers and later worked as a linebackers coach with the Los Angeles Chargers. The younger Bowman has already attracted major attention because of his performances at the high school and youth levels.

Standing 6 feet 3 inches tall and weighing around 185 pounds, Bowman has the size and skills to play multiple positions in the backcourt. He is known for his scoring ability, playmaking skills and defensive intensity. His combination of athleticism and basketball intelligence has made him one of the most highly rated players in the 2027 class.

Bowman impressed during last summer’s Nike EYBL circuit, where he averaged 20.5 points, 3.8 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game. His performances also earned him a place on Team USA for the FIBA U17 World Cup. During the tournament, he contributed 11.9 points and 3.6 assists per game.

For UConn, landing a player of Bowman’s ranking at such an early stage is a significant achievement. The Huskies have become one of the strongest programs in college basketball, and Hurley has developed a reputation for attracting talented players.
