India Urges Global Fight Against Terrorism Financing

India has called for stronger international action against terrorism financing and cross-border terrorist activities during a meeting of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) in Paris. Indian officials stressed the need for countries to work together to prevent terrorist groups from receiving financial support and carrying out attacks across national borders.

India’s External Affairs Ministry spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, said that although progress has been made in tackling terrorism, more coordinated efforts are needed from the international community. He highlighted the importance of a united approach to address terrorism in all its forms and support lasting peace and security around the world.

Terrorist organisations often depend on money to purchase weapons, recruit members, arrange transportation and organise their activities. Preventing these groups from accessing funds is therefore an important part of efforts to reduce their ability to carry out attacks.

The FATF plays an important role in the global fight against money laundering and terrorism financing. It develops international standards and encourages countries to strengthen their financial systems, identify suspicious transactions and prevent the misuse of banks and other financial services.

India has consistently called for countries to take effective action against individuals and organisations involved in supporting terrorism. This includes investigating suspicious financial activities, sharing relevant information and ensuring that those responsible face appropriate legal action.

Cross-border terrorism remains a concern because terrorist networks can operate across several countries and use international financial channels to support their activities. Cooperation between governments and financial institutions can help authorities identify these networks and prevent the movement of funds used for illegal purposes.

India’s message at the FATF meeting highlights the importance of international cooperation in addressing these challenges. Stronger financial monitoring, better information sharing and consistent action against terrorism financing could help countries improve security and protect their citizens.

The discussions also underline the need for continued global efforts to tackle terrorism comprehensively. India has stressed that countries must work together to prevent terrorist financing, strengthen security cooperation and build a safer and more peaceful international environment.
