TN Police Search Homes Linked to Ex-Minister in Fraud Case

Chennai police conducted searches at six locations in Chennai and Tiruchirappalli on September 16 as part of an investigation into an alleged fraud involving private schools and government approvals.

The locations searched reportedly included places linked to Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, the former Tamil Nadu Education Minister, and his aide Valadi Karthik. The searches were carried out as investigators examined allegations of money being collected from private school owners in exchange for promises of government approvals.

The case began after Ilangovan, who is associated with the Federation of Associations of Private Schools in Tamil Nadu, filed a complaint. According to the complaint, private school owners were allegedly approached with promises of helping them obtain important permissions from government departments.

These approvals reportedly included permanent recognition for schools, permission to upgrade schools to higher standards, and clearances from planning authorities. The complaint alleges that money was collected from school managements in return for helping them obtain these permissions.

Police are now examining the financial transactions and other details connected to the allegations. Investigators are also trying to determine whether the reported activities were part of a larger network or financial fraud involving multiple people.

The searches are expected to help authorities collect documents, electronic records and other material that could provide information about the alleged transactions and connections between the people involved.

The investigation is still underway, and the allegations have not been established as facts by a court. Police will determine the next course of action based on the evidence collected during the investigation.
