Tamil Nadu Secures Major UK Investment Deal Under Vijay Government

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay returned to Chennai on Thursday after a six-day official visit to the United Kingdom, where the state secured investment proposals and commitments worth around ₹15,300 crore. The agreements were signed as part of the state government’s efforts to attract global investments and strengthen industrial development.

Several agreements were signed in London through the state’s investment promotion agency, Guidance Tamil Nadu. The proposals cover areas including advanced manufacturing, engineering, technology, automotive components and other industries.

One of the major commitments came from Samvardhana Motherson International and its European and UK-based partners. The company has proposed an investment of ₹11,000 crore in Tamil Nadu, with around 7,000 jobs expected from the planned activities. Wilson Power Solutions has also signed an agreement to invest ₹300 crore in an electrical equipment manufacturing facility in Tiruvallur.

Other proposals include a ₹3,000 crore investment from a European automotive component manufacturer. Sweden-based Sigma Technology Group is also planning to expand its operations in Chennai and Tiruchirappalli, while Ernst & Young has signed an agreement involving a ₹1,000 crore Global Capability Centre project.

According to the Tamil Nadu government, the projects announced during the UK visit are expected to create more than 10,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities. The government said the visit also helped showcase the state’s industrial infrastructure, skilled workforce and business environment to international companies.

The visit also included discussions related to the proposed Motor Sports City in Tamil Nadu. The government said the UK visit helped advance groundwork for the project and provided an opportunity to study international motorsport infrastructure.

The investment commitments are expected to strengthen Tamil Nadu’s industrial pipeline and support employment opportunities if the proposed projects are implemented. However, investment commitments and MoUs still need to progress into actual projects and operations.

The state government has said it will continue working with global companies to convert these proposals into industrial projects and further expand Tamil Nadu’s position as a destination for international investment.
