Bo Nix Leads Broncos With Late Comebacks, But Early Struggles Linger

Bo Nix and the Denver Broncos have shown great resilience this season with 10 fourth-quarter comebacks since Nix joined the team in 2024. However, their inability to start games strong remains a major issue. The Broncos have been outscored 40-10 in the first half of games.

Nix believes execution is key, especially early in games. The team has struggled to sustain drives and secure first downs in the first two quarters, failing to do so on seven out of 15 possessions. Despite this, they perform well after halftime, converting at least one first down on 11 out of 16 second-half drives.

The Broncos’ rushing attack, which ranks second worst in the NFL with 243 yards, is part of the problem. Injuries to J.K. Dobbins and RJ Harvey have hurt the team’s early-game performance. Offensive coordinator Davis Webb has taken over play-calling duties and emphasized the need for a stronger running game.

The Broncos face the San Francisco 49ers next, who have yet to allow points in the first quarter but struggle defensively in the fourth. Nix remains confident, highlighting the team’s ability to rally despite slow starts.

Coach Sean Payton notes the team’s October success but focuses on improving September performance. The Broncos aim to combine a strong start with their late-game prowess to achieve consistent success.
