12th BRICS Communications Ministers Meeting to be held on 21st August 2026
India will host the 12th BRICS Communications Ministers Meeting in Pune on August 22. The important meeting will bring together Communications Ministers and senior officials from BRICS member countries to discuss cooperation in the digital and technology sectors.
The meeting will be chaired by Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia. Ministers and senior representatives will discuss ways to improve cooperation in Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs), digital transformation, innovation and digital infrastructure.
The theme of the meeting is “Innovate, Cooperate and Transform.” The theme highlights the importance of using new technologies, working together and building stronger digital systems for the future.
Digital technology has become an important part of modern life. Countries are increasingly using digital services for education, healthcare, banking, government services, communication and business. The BRICS meeting will provide an opportunity for member countries to share their experiences and discuss ways to make digital services more accessible and secure.
One of the key areas of discussion will be ICT cooperation. Member countries can work together on new technologies, digital skills and policies that support the growth of the digital economy.
The meeting will also focus on digital transformation. Governments are using technology to improve public services and make them faster and easier for citizens. Sharing successful digital initiatives can help BRICS countries develop better systems.
Innovation is another major focus of the meeting. New technologies such as artificial intelligence, advanced communication networks and other digital tools are changing the way people work and communicate. The participating countries are expected to discuss opportunities and challenges linked to these developments.
Building resilient digital infrastructure will also be an important part of the discussions. Strong and reliable digital networks are essential for economic growth and national development. Countries need infrastructure that can continue to provide services even during emergencies or disruptions.
The meeting will also provide a platform for BRICS members to strengthen cooperation in the communications sector. Closer cooperation can help countries exchange knowledge, improve technical skills and explore new areas of partnership.
India’s hosting of the meeting highlights its growing role in discussions on digital technology and communications. The country has been promoting digital services and innovation as important tools for economic and social development.
The discussions in Pune are expected to focus on practical ways to increase cooperation among BRICS nations. The participating countries may also explore future initiatives aimed at creating a stronger and more inclusive digital environment.
The “Innovate, Cooperate and Transform” theme reflects the main goal of the meeting — to encourage innovation, strengthen international cooperation and use technology to support sustainable development.
The meeting is expected to conclude with a shared understanding of the importance of stronger digital cooperation among BRICS countries and the need to prepare for the rapidly changing global technology environment.
