AIADMK Debates Support for TVK Government

Senior AIADMK leaders S.P. Velumani and C.Ve. Shanmugam are currently holding important discussions with party General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) at his camp office on Greenways Road in Chennai.

The main focus of the meeting is whether AIADMK should extend support to Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) to help form the next government in Tamil Nadu.

This decision has become crucial after the Assembly election produced a highly uncertain political situation, with no single party securing a clear majority.

According to political sources, there is growing pressure from some senior leaders within AIADMK, particularly C.Ve. Shanmugam, to consider supporting TVK.

Supporters of this move reportedly believe that backing TVK could allow AIADMK to retain political influence and play a role in shaping the new government.

However, Edappadi K. Palaniswami is said to be strongly reluctant to offer what he views as “voluntary support” to TVK.

EPS reportedly believes that unconditional support could weaken AIADMK’s political identity and reduce its standing as an independent opposition force.

The internal discussions reflect deep divisions within AIADMK over the party’s future strategy after being pushed to third place in the 234-member Assembly.

This electoral setback has intensified pressure on party leadership to carefully decide its next steps.

Political observers say AIADMK’s final decision could significantly impact government formation and alliance dynamics in Tamil Nadu.

As negotiations continue, the party faces a delicate balance between maintaining its political relevance and protecting its long-term independent position.

The outcome of these discussions could become a key turning point in Tamil Nadu’s rapidly evolving political landscape.
