21 Tamil Nadu Residents Rescued from Nepal Arrive in Chennai

Twenty-one pilgrims from Tamil Nadu, who were rescued after being stranded in Nepal due to flash floods, reached Chennai late on Friday night. The group was brought back to India as part of an evacuation operation and travelled from New Delhi to Chennai after being safely rescued.

The pilgrims were part of a larger group that had been visiting Nepal when the sudden floods disrupted their journey. The group mainly included friends and relatives from Chidambaram and Mayiladuthurai.

Pilgrims Moved Through Several Rescue Centres

After they were rescued from the flood-affected area, the pilgrims were first taken to a rescue camp. They were later moved to an Army camp, where they received assistance and support.

From the Army camp, the group was taken to the Indian Embassy in Nepal. Embassy officials helped coordinate their return to India as part of the ongoing evacuation efforts.

The pilgrims were then flown to New Delhi. After reaching the national capital, they continued their journey to Chennai, finally reuniting with their families and relatives.

Warm Welcome in New Delhi and Chennai

Union External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, along with several Tamil Nadu ministers, welcomed the rescued pilgrims in New Delhi earlier on Friday.

The pilgrims were also welcomed in Chennai by Rural Development Minister N. Anand after they arrived late at night.

The return of the group brought relief to their families, who had been worried about their safety after learning about the severe flooding in Nepal.

Relief After a Difficult Experience

The pilgrims had to go through several stages of evacuation before reaching home. From the rescue camp to the Army facility, then to the Indian Embassy and finally to New Delhi, the process involved coordination between Indian authorities and officials in Nepal.

For the 21 pilgrims, reaching Chennai marked the end of a difficult and frightening experience. Their safe return allowed them to reunite with their families after being stranded far from home.

The evacuation also highlights the efforts of Indian authorities to assist citizens caught in natural disasters abroad and bring them back safely.
