“Andhra Pradesh Revives Dugarajapatnam Port Project”

The Andhra Pradesh government has decided to speed up work on the long-pending greenfield port and national mega shipbuilding project at Dugarajapatnam in Tirupati district. This decision gives fresh hope to a project that has remained only on paper for more than ten years.

The decision was taken at a State Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Monday, December 29. The move shows the government’s renewed effort to develop Dugarajapatnam into a major port along with facilities for shipbuilding and ship repair.

The project was first promised under the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act of 2014, which assured a major port for the newly formed state. However, there was very little progress in the years that followed.

Dugarajapatnam was earlier identified as a suitable deep-water port location, but the project was delayed due to environmental concerns, feasibility issues, and changes in policy under previous governments. The current Naidu-led government now seems determined to revive the project and take it forward towards actual implementation.
