Anganwadi Strike in Andhra Pradesh: Children and Pregnant Women Bear the Brunt

The State-wide strike by anganwadi workers in Andhra Pradesh has entered its eighth day, adversely impacting thousands of pre-school children and pregnant women who depend on the centres for nutritious meals. Many anganwadi centres in districts like Krishna and NTR remained closed as the workers continued their strike.

The ‘YSR Sampoorna Poshana’ and ‘YSR Sampoorna Poshana Plus’ schemes, aimed at providing quality food to pregnant women and children, have been disrupted. Despite attempts by secretariat staff to open some centres, there were no children in attendance. As the strike persists, the well-being of vulnerable segments, particularly children and pregnant women from low-income families, remains a concern.
