Anganwadi Workers’ Protest Leads to Tensions and Detentions in Vijayawada

Tensions escalated at Dharna Chowk in Vijayawada as Anganwadi workers attempted to stage blockades outside legislators’ residences, demanding the government address their concerns. The workers, part of the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) staff and sanitation workers, sought the regularization of their services and other demands.

Police mobilized forces to prevent the protests, resulting in heated arguments and the subsequent preventive custody of several union leaders and workers. The agitation, now in its 17th day, follows unsuccessful talks between the Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Union and the State government on Tuesday. Expressing dissatisfaction with the lack of resolution, the workers vowed to escalate their protest in the coming days.
