Arrest of 70-Year-Old Man for Allegedly Firing at Police Officials in Kannur
A 70-year-old man found himself in police custody after allegedly firing his revolver at a group of five police officials who had arrived at his residence in Kannur, Kerala, in search of his son, Roshan, concerning several cases filed against him. Roshan, presently in police custody, had accumulated a series of cases, with the most recent one registered in October, relating to disturbances in his neighborhood.
When the police received information that Roshan was spotted at his home, they visited the premises. Upon arrival, Oommen Thomas, the father, locked the house, and when the police attempted to forcefully enter, he fired three rounds from his revolver. The police eventually subdued and arrested Thomas, while Roshan managed to evade capture.
Thomas’s wife contended that he fired warning shots in response to the police presence and that their house and property were damaged by the accompanying crowd, refuting the charges against her husband. The incident underscores the challenges faced by law enforcement in dealing with sensitive situations involving individuals with a history of legal issues.
