Asian Games 2026: India Challenges Shaili Singh’s Long Jump Result

The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) has decided to challenge the result of Indian long jumper Shaili Singh at the 2026 Asian Games, alleging that her fourth jump was measured incorrectly and may have cost her a medal.

Shaili finished fourth in the women’s long jump with an official best distance of 6.42 metres. Her Indian teammate Ancy Sojan won the silver medal with a jump of 6.53 metres, while China’s Huang Yingying took gold with 6.55 metres.

The controversy concerns Shaili’s fourth attempt, which was officially recorded at 6.41 metres. According to her mentor and former Indian long jump champion Anju Bobby George, the measurement did not accurately reflect where Shaili landed.

Anju alleged that an official standing away from the landing area indicated a shorter mark, after which officials measured the jump based on that point. Shaili reportedly protested the decision during the competition and showed video footage of the attempt to support her claim.

The officials initially provided a front-view video, which did not clearly establish the exact landing point. The jury later reviewed side-view footage but decided to uphold the original measurement.

Anju described the decision as unfair and argued that a correct measurement could have changed Shaili’s final position. The AFI has now decided to take the matter to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne.

A senior AFI official has also confirmed that the federation is moving ahead with the legal challenge against the officials’ decision. The case will determine whether the original measurement of Shaili’s fourth attempt should be reconsidered.
