Asian Games 2026 Men’s Cricket Semifinal: Pakistan’s Opponent Revealed

Pakistan has reached the semifinals of the men’s cricket competition at the Asian Games 2026 after their quarter-final match against Hong Kong was canceled due to heavy rain in Nisshin, Japan, on Monday. The game was scheduled at Korogi Sports Park but never started because the field and outfield were deemed unsafe for play.

Pakistan advanced directly to the knockout stage as one of the top four teams based on their ICC T20I ranking. Other top-ranked teams like India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh also secured automatic quarter-final spots. Hong Kong, ranked lower, had to earn their place by finishing second in Group B after winning one match and losing another.

In the group stage, Hong Kong lost to Malaysia but defeated Oman by 41 runs. Their final match against Malaysia was abandoned without a ball being bowled, securing them second place with two points. Pakistan, led by Sahibzada Farhan, avoided playing any matches in the tournament so far and will now face the winner of the Bangladesh-Malaysia quarter-final.

Meanwhile, India, led by Shreyas Iyer, is set to play Afghanistan later on Monday. If both Pakistan and India win their semifinals, they could meet in the gold medal match. The bronze medal match and final are scheduled for October 3.

Pakistan’s next challenge will be against either Bangladesh or Malaysia in the semifinal on October 1. Their path to the gold medal remains uncertain but promising as they aim to secure a spot in the final showdown.
