Broadway Bus Stand To Get Major Upgrade
The foundation stone for an Rs 800-crore multi-modal transport hub connected to Kuralagam will be laid on January 25. This is part of a major redevelopment project aimed at transforming the Broadway bus stand into a modern transport facility to make commuting easier in North Chennai.
The Broadway bus stand, which is 75 years old, will be rebuilt under the North Chennai Development Scheme. After redevelopment, the bus stand will have 73 bus bays to handle buses efficiently.
The upgraded facility is expected to manage around 466 bus movements per hour, significantly increasing the capacity for daily commuters. This project will provide better facilities, smoother traffic flow, and a more convenient experience for people traveling in and around North Chennai.
Officials say the new transport hub will also integrate multiple modes of transport, making it easier for passengers to switch between buses, trains, and other public transport. The project is part of a larger effort to modernize North Chennai’s infrastructure and improve urban mobility.
