CEC’s Community-Led Water Management Initiative Takes Off
The Centre of Excellence for Change Management (CEC) is taking a big step forward in water conservation efforts by implementing community-led water management initiatives in several villages across three districts. This initiative aims to empower communities to manage their own water resources effectively, reducing wastage and ensuring a sustainable future. To kick-start this project, the CEC has identified two model villages – Damal and Puthagaram – in Kancheepuram district. These villages will serve as pilot projects, demonstrating how community collaboration can lead to better water management practices. The initiative will engage local residents in all aspects of water budgeting and conservation, from monitoring usage to fixing leaks. The CEC, comprising professionals from various government departments, including the Water Resources Department (WRD), is working closely with the communities to design and implement effective solutions. By involving the community directly in the decision-making process, this initiative aims to create a sense of ownership and responsibility among villagers, encouraging them to take care of their water resources. The project’s success will pave the way for its expansion to Tiruvallur and Madurai districts, ultimately benefiting thousands of people across these regions. By empowering communities to manage their own water resources, we can ensure a more sustainable future where every drop counts.
