Chakravarthy Breaks Kolkata’s Losing Streak
Varun Chakravarthy’s strong performance helped the Kolkata Knight Riders end their losing streak in the Indian Premier League on Sunday. However, he admitted that his spin bowlers are finding it hard to make an impact due to the league’s batting-friendly surfaces.
Chakravarthy, who was a key player during India’s recent T20 World Cup win, had struggled early in the IPL with three wicketless games. But on Friday, he managed 2-34 in a loss against Gujarat Titans. On Sunday, he delivered again at Eden Gardens, taking 3-14 on a slow pitch and helping Kolkata secure a four-wicket victory over Rajasthan Royals. This was their first win in seven matches.
Chakravarthy, named Player of the Match, acknowledged that replicating such performance would be tough due to the pitch conditions. He emphasized his attacking approach but noted that bowlers often struggle when there’s little turn or bounce on the surface.
Reflecting on the team’s long wait for a win, Chakravarthy said it was emotional for the players. “One win here, one win there, we will be back on track,” he added.
Kolkata currently stands ninth in the 10-team league, with one point separating them from bottom-placed Mumbai Indians, who have played two fewer games.
