Chennai Boosts Heat Wave Preparedness

Civic agencies in Chennai, including the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) and Chennai Metrowater, are increasing their preparedness to manage heat wave conditions as summer temperatures rise.

During a meeting held on Tuesday with state government officials, authorities discussed several important measures to reduce the impact of extreme heat on residents across the city.

One of the key steps includes setting up more drinking water facilities in public places such as bus stops, transport hubs, and other crowded areas. These additional water points are aimed at helping people stay hydrated during intense heat conditions.

Chennai Metrowater has been given the responsibility of developing the necessary infrastructure to provide clean and accessible drinking water in these public locations.

Officials are focusing on improving public safety by ensuring basic resources are available, especially for daily commuters, outdoor workers, and vulnerable populations who are most affected by high temperatures.

These efforts are part of Chennai’s broader heat wave preparedness plan to minimize health risks, prevent heat-related illnesses, and improve the city’s response to extreme weather conditions.
