Chennai Metro Phase II Delayed

The second phase of the Chennai Metro from Koyambedu to Chennai Trade Centre has been delayed once again.

This section was originally expected to open in June, but the launch is now likely to happen in August.

The delayed stretch is part of Chennai Metro’s larger Phase 2 expansion project, which covers 118.9 kilometers and is valued at ₹63,246 crore. This major project aims to improve transportation across the city.

Phase 2 includes three important corridors:

  • Corridor 3: Madhavaram to SIPCOT
  • Corridor 4: Poonamallee to Light House
  • Corridor 5: Madhavaram to Sholinganallur

These new metro routes are expected to connect several major areas of Chennai, making daily travel easier and faster for residents.

Once completed, the expanded metro system will improve public transport, reduce traffic congestion, and provide better connectivity throughout the city.
