Chennai Metro Rail Implements Safety Measures for Sharp Curves in Phase II Project

In the upcoming phase II project of the Chennai Metro Rail, commuters can expect trains to navigate through numerous sharp curves, particularly noticeable on the route from Koyambedu to St Thomas Mount. These sharp curves, spanning approximately 16 km across various stretches, have necessitated a slower average operating speed of 32 kmph compared to phase I.

To mitigate safety risks associated with sharp curves, Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) plans to install ‘check rails’ near the tracks and ensure adequate greasing of train wheels. These measures aim to prevent derailment and minimize screeching noises for a smoother commuting experience. However, ongoing maintenance will also be crucial to sustain optimal operations and passenger comfort once the phase II network becomes operational.
