Crackdown on Sale of Banned Tobacco Products: 17 Shops Sealed in Avadi

In a decisive move against the sale of banned tobacco products, 17 shops within the Avadi City Police limits have been sealed following coordinated raids by over 150 police personnel in 15 teams, assisted by Food Safety Officers. Acting on the directives of Avadi City Police Commissioner K. Shankar, the raids targeted areas such as Ambattur, Avadi, Sevvapet, Vellavedu, Poonamallee, Redhills, Ennore, Porur, Thiruverkadu, and Mangadu.

The focus was on shops in proximity to schools and colleges. Out of the 128 shops inspected, 17 were found to be selling banned tobacco products like mava and gutka. Commissioner Shankar emphasized that such proactive measures will be consistently undertaken to curb the sale of prohibited tobacco items at the grassroots level.
