Delhi Fire Service Receives Over 200 Calls on Diwali, Despite Ban on Firecrackers
Despite a ban on firecrackers, the Delhi Fire Service (DFS) was inundated with over 200 calls, marking the highest number since the Covid pandemic, with 22 related to firecrackers on Diwali. The data revealed that between 6 p.m. and 11:59 p.m., 123 calls were received, surpassing the 201 calls received the previous year.
Notably, major fires were reported at locations like Shastri Nagar, Sultanpur, and East of Kailash. The incidents also included five road accidents, 12 animal rescues, and 21 rubbish fire calls. A notable fire incident occurred at Fruit Mandi beside Tilak Nagar market in west Delhi, where eight roadside shops selling cosmetics, bangles, and clothes were gutted, reportedly ignited by flames from candles and diyas. Fortunately, there were no casualties reported.
