DMK, AIADMK Back Allies in Pallavaram Contest
In Chennai, political parties are making key seat-sharing decisions ahead of the elections, and this time the focus is on the Pallavaram constituency.
The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), which had won Pallavaram in both 2016 and 2021, has decided not to contest the seat this time. Instead, it has given the seat to its ally, the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam. This means DMK will not be trying for a third straight win in this constituency.
On the other side, the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam has also given the seat to its smaller ally, the Indiya Jananayaga Katchi.
Pallavaram is one of only two constituencies in the Chennai region where allies of the two major Dravidian parties are directly competing against each other. The other such constituency is Thiruporur.
Even though the major parties are not contesting directly in Pallavaram, both DMK and AIADMK are actively working on the ground to support their respective allies. They are campaigning and trying to strengthen their influence in the constituency through local outreach.
The situation makes Pallavaram an important and closely watched seat in the upcoming elections.
