DMK MLA Criticizes Removal of French from Puducherry Curriculum

A DMK MLA has spoken against the decision to remove French from the school syllabus in Puducherry. He said that this move could affect the strong cultural connection between Puducherry and France.

The MLA explained that French is not just a language in Puducherry, but also a part of its history and identity. Learning French helps students understand the region’s past and its long relationship with France. He warned that removing the language from schools may weaken this cultural link.

He also said that knowing French can give students better opportunities in the future, especially for higher studies and jobs abroad. According to him, it helps students gain international exposure and learn about different cultures.

The MLA added that decisions about school subjects should consider what people want. If there is demand for French among students and parents, it should continue to be taught. He stressed that public opinion must be respected when making changes in education.

His remarks highlight a larger discussion about balancing modern education needs while protecting local culture and heritage.
