ED Questions Ex-TN Minister Over Illegally Gained Wealth
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned C Vijayabaskar, a former Tamil Nadu minister and leader of the TVK group, in connection with an investigation into alleged illegal assets. The case focuses on assets worth ₹35.79 crore that he is suspected of acquiring during his tenure as Health Minister between 2016 and 2021.
According to the allegations, the assets accumulated during his time in office were reportedly beyond what could have been earned through his known sources of income. The ED is investigating whether the wealth was obtained through corruption or other illegal activities.
As part of the investigation, the agency has asked Vijayabaskar to explain the source of the money used to acquire the assets. Officials are examining financial records and other details to determine whether the wealth was accumulated through legitimate means.
The investigation aims to establish whether there was any misuse of public office or involvement in financial irregularities. However, the allegations are yet to be proven, and further investigation is required to establish the facts.
The ED’s action has brought renewed attention to the issue of corruption among public officials. The agency is continuing its efforts to investigate suspected financial irregularities and ensure that government officials follow the law.
Vijayabaskar’s summons marks an important development in the case. His response to the agency’s questions and the findings of the investigation could play a significant role in determining the next steps in the legal proceedings.
