Edinburgh Castle Rockers Win First Scottish Derby

In their opening match of the European T20 Premier League (ETPL), Edinburgh Castle Rockers defeated Glasgow Cosmic by seven wickets in a thrilling Scottish derby. Chasing 116, Edinburgh accomplished the target in just 11.3 overs at Sportpark Westvliet.

Edinburgh’s captain Mitchell Santner chose to bowl first after winning the toss, applying immediate pressure on Glasgow. This decision quickly bore fruit as Glasgow struggled to score, eventually being bowled out for 115 in 20 overs.

Trent Boult was the standout performer with the ball, taking five wickets for just 24 runs in his four overs. His spell broke Glasgow’s momentum multiple times. Andries Gous then took control, smashing 40 runs from 28 balls, including six fours and a six. One of his shots traveled an impressive 101 meters, showcasing the power of Edinburgh’s batting.

Brandon McMullen added 23 unbeaten runs, and Laurie Evans sealed the victory with a boundary in the 12th over. The chase was essentially decided during the powerplay when Edinburgh reached 103 for two after nine overs, needing only 12 more runs to win.

Boult’s five-wicket haul laid the foundation for the win, while Adair and Gous’ aggressive batting ensured Edinburgh completed the chase efficiently. For Glasgow, despite individual contributions from Berrington and Maharaj, the early loss of wickets put too much pressure on their middle and lower order.
