Event Cancelled Due To Safety Concerns

A planned public appearance by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay near The Shard in London was cancelled after police raised concerns about crowd safety. Hundreds of supporters had gathered outside the landmark building hoping to meet Vijay and catch a glimpse of him during his UK visit.

Many supporters had reportedly waited for several hours before the cancellation was announced. Vijay’s team informed the crowd through a loudspeaker that the programme was being called off because the necessary permission could not be secured due to public safety concerns.

The cancellation left many attendees disappointed, particularly those who had travelled and spent hours waiting at the venue. However, the decision followed concerns raised by the Metropolitan Police over the size of the gathering and the safety of people at the location.

Vijay is currently in the UK as part of a Tamil Nadu government delegation seeking new investments for the state. According to the Chief Minister’s Office, the delegation signed multiple memoranda of understanding involving proposed investments worth around ₹12,300 crore during the visit.

Following the cancellation, Vijay’s team and the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) urged supporters not to gather outside his hotel or attempt to meet him along his travel routes. The appeal was made to help avoid further crowding and maintain public safety.

The incident highlights the challenges involved in organising large public gatherings involving a prominent political figure in a busy city location. The event was cancelled to address the safety concerns raised by authorities.
