Fire Onboard Cargo Ship Claims Indian Crewman’s Life off Dutch Coast

A tragic incident occurred off the Dutch coast when a fire broke out on a cargo ship carrying nearly 3,000 vehicles, resulting in the death of an Indian crewman and injuries to at least 20 others. The fire engulfed the 199-meter-long Panama-registered Fremantle Highway on Tuesday night while it was en route from Germany to Egypt. In a desperate attempt to save themselves, several crew members jumped overboard.

The Indian Embassy in the Netherlands confirmed their involvement, stating that they are in contact with the deceased crewman’s family and working towards his repatriation. The Embassy also mentioned providing necessary assistance to the 20 injured crew members, who are currently receiving medical attention and are in contact with the Dutch authorities and the shipping company for further coordination.
