Fresh Rains Trigger Floods in Assam, Affecting Over 1.90 Lakh People

A new spell of heavy rain has caused flooding in 17 districts of Assam, impacting more than 1.90 lakh individuals and resulting in one fatality. The floodwaters claimed a life when a person fell into them in Sivasagar district’s Demow area. The affected districts include Biswanath, Chirang, Darang, Dhemaji, Dhubri, Dibrugarh, Golaghat, Jorhat, Lakhimpur, Majuli, Morigaon, Nagaon, Nalbari, Sivasagar, Sonitpur, Tamulpur, and Udalguri.

Approximately 522 villages in these areas are submerged, causing the destruction of 8,000 hectares of crops. The Brahmaputra River is above the danger level in several locations, while other major rivers like Subansiri and Dikhou have also crossed the danger mark.

The state authorities have set up 47 relief camps and 45 distribution centers to aid those affected by the floods, including over 1.30 lakh domestic animals. Moreover, 18 places have reported road damage due to the deluge.
