Garrett Mitchell and Gary Sánchez Lead Brewers to 7-4 Win Over Mariners

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Garrett Mitchell and Gary Sánchez both hit two-run doubles during a six-run first inning, helping the Milwaukee Brewers defeat the Seattle Mariners 7-4 on Thursday.

Mitchell also homered in the eighth inning, ending with three RBIs as Milwaukee won two of three games against Seattle. The series included the Brewers’ historic 22-0 win on Tuesday night, matching the record for the largest shutout in baseball’s modern era. Milwaukee has now won seven straight home series.

For Seattle starter George Kirby, the game started poorly. He walked the first batter and gave up six hits in the first inning alone. Sánchez scored the Brewers’ first run with a double, while Joey Ortiz added an RBI single. Mitchell’s double put the Brewers ahead 5-0, and David Hamilton capped off the inning with another double.

Kirby pitched only 3 1/3 innings, allowing six runs on nine hits. Meanwhile, Brewers starter Robert Gasser struggled, lasting just 3 2/3 innings before being replaced after falling behind in the count to Randy Arozarena. He gave up four hits and four runs during his time on the mound.

Brendan Donovan had a two-run double for Seattle, and Dominic Canzone’s RBI single brought the Mariners within 6-4 in the fourth inning. However, the Brewers’ strong start proved too much to overcome.

In relief, Chad Patrick pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings, and Trevor Megill recorded three outs in the ninth inning for his 23rd save of the season.

Mitchell hit a impressive 420-foot home run off Jhonathan Díaz in the eighth inning. Mariners shortstop Brock Rodden continued his strong start to his major league career with a single in the second inning, marking his sixth consecutive game with a hit.

Looking ahead, Mariners right-hander Emerson Hancock will face the visiting Chicago Cubs on Friday, while Brewers right-hander Jacob Misiorowski will take on Braves left-hander Chris Sale in an upcoming marquee pitching matchup.
