Greater Chennai Corporation started a survey of persons who are all engaged in begging

The Greater Chennai Corporation is set to conduct a survey to identify and assess persons engaged in begging within the city. The survey, which will be carried out with the support of non-governmental organizations, aims to gather data on the extent of the issue and explore possibilities for rehabilitation.

Following discussions with officials from the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, the GCC is focusing on the feasibility of rehabilitating individuals involved in begging across different areas of Chennai.

The survey is expected to provide valuable insights into the demographics and circumstances of those engaged in begging, aiding in the formulation of appropriate welfare measures. The initiative underscores the commitment of the authorities to address the issue and provide assistance to those in need.
