Greater Chennai Corporation to Commence Road Relaying in January

The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) plans to resume the relaying of approximately 2,200 roads in January, with expectations to complete the work within a month. G.S Sameeran, Joint Commissioner (Works), mentioned that the tender process was finalized earlier, and the delay was primarily due to the monsoon season.

The relaying work, distributed across zones and conducted simultaneously under various schemes, is anticipated to take 10-15 days for areas requiring milling and about a week for others. The Corporation aims to address the backlog of road repairs after the monsoon, emphasizing the need for the new roads to withstand adverse weather conditions.

The Municipal Administration And Water Supply Department’s Policy Note for 2023-24 outlines plans for relaying 171 km of roads in the upcoming financial year, contributing to the city’s overall road infrastructure improvement.
