Green Activist’s Padayatra to Medaram: A Call to Shun Plastic Products

Kolipaka Prakash, a dedicated green activist from Kazipet, launches his fourth ‘padayatra’ from Hanamkonda to Medaram, covering approximately 110 km. Clad in attire reminiscent of Mahatma Gandhi and sporting a green dhoti, Prakash aims to raise awareness about the harmful effects of plastic usage, particularly during the biennial Sammakka-Saralamma Jatara.

Expressing concern over the rampant use of plastic products by pilgrims despite repeated appeals, Prakash emphasizes the threat posed to the forest surrounding the Medaram shrine. His journey spans four days, to distribute informational pamphlets and cover 25-30 km daily, passing through Mulugu en route to Medaram. With a background in environmental conservation and previous padayatras protesting against tree felling and advocating for eco-friendly practices, Prakash’s efforts underscore the importance of embracing sustainable lifestyles.
