Heavy Rains Trigger Floods and Landslides in Kenya

Heavy rains in Kenya have caused serious flooding and landslides, leaving at least ten people dead and damaging infrastructure in several regions. The continuous rainfall has affected homes, roads, and bridges, making travel and rescue work difficult.

In Elgeyo-Marakwet County, landslides hit hilly areas and damaged parts of the region, forcing some residents to leave their homes. Emergency teams have been working to search for survivors and clear blocked roads.

In other parts of the country, two bridges were destroyed in Kwale County and Kitui County due to fast-moving floodwaters. The destruction has cut off important transport routes and affected daily life for many people.

A major landslide also blocked the Iten-Kabarnet road near Kolol, stopping traffic and isolating nearby communities. Authorities are trying to clear the debris, but continued rain is slowing down recovery efforts.

The government has placed the lower Tana River basin on high alert as water levels continue to rise because of heavy rainfall upstream. Officials have warned people living near the river to stay alert and move to safer areas if needed.

Weather experts say more rain is expected, and authorities are urging residents in affected regions to remain cautious. Relief efforts are ongoing as the country deals with the impact of the severe weather.
