In August improving the Retteri Lake storage capacity work will be begin

In efforts to address Chennai’s growing water needs, the Water Resources Department (WRD) is planning to increase the storage capacity of Retteri Lake starting in August. The project, estimated at ₹43.19 crore, aims to deepen and desilt the lake, transforming it into a dependable source of drinking water.

With the tender expected to be finalized by the end of this month, the work is likely to be completed within 18 months. The project also includes plans to construct an additional regulator. The Retteri Lake, covering an area of 400 acres, served as a water source during the 2019 drought. The initiative aligns with the successful development of Porur Lake.
