Indian Naval Ships Complete Exercise in Philippines
Indian Navy ships INS Sahyadri and INS Kulish have completed their participation in a five-day maritime security exercise in the Philippines. The exercise was held at Subic Bay as part of the 23rd ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting-Plus Experts’ Working Group on Maritime Security.
The exercise was hosted by the Philippine Navy, with Japan serving as the co-chair. It brought together naval personnel from participating countries to strengthen cooperation and improve coordination on maritime security issues.
During the programme, participants took part in Subject Matter Expert Exchanges focusing on peace and security. The discussions provided an opportunity for naval officers to share professional experience and exchange views on common maritime challenges.
The programme also included the ASEAN Navy Chiefs’ Meeting and discussions on the Guidelines for Maritime Interaction. These activities focused on promoting greater understanding and improving communication between participating naval forces.
Indian Navy personnel were also involved in operational planning activities. They participated in a tabletop simulation and attended a pre-sail meeting as part of the exercise programme.
The practical activities allowed participating forces to improve coordination and understand operational procedures. The Indian Ministry of Defence said the exercise strengthened professional interactions and practical cooperation among the participating countries.
The participation of INS Sahyadri and INS Kulish also reflects India’s continuing engagement with countries in the Indo-Pacific region. Maritime security remains an important area of cooperation as countries work together to maintain safe and stable waters.
The exercise is in line with India’s Act East Policy, which focuses on strengthening relations and engagement with Southeast Asian and other Indo-Pacific countries.
The Ministry also highlighted India’s vision of MAHASAGAR — Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions. The initiative reflects India’s emphasis on cooperation, security and sustainable growth across the wider maritime region.
The successful completion of the exercise provided Indian and participating naval personnel with an opportunity to strengthen professional ties and improve practical coordination. Such engagements are expected to contribute to greater maritime cooperation and regional security.
