Israel’s Ambassador to the UN Calls for Secretary-General’s Resignation

Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Gilad Erdan, has called for the immediate resignation of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, accusing him of playing into the hands of Hamas. Erdan criticized Guterres for appealing to the Security Council for a humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza, stating that the Secretary-General reached a “new moral low.”

Erdan invoked Article 99 of the UN Charter, claiming it was activated selectively to pressure Israel. He argued that Guterres’ call for a ceasefire effectively supports Hamas’ “reign of terror” in Gaza and prolongs the conflict. Erdan emphasized the need for a Secretary-General who supports the fight against terrorism rather than one aligned with Hamas’ narrative.
