Karnataka Approves AI System to Monitor Social Media

Karnataka will soon use an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based system to monitor social media platforms to control fake news and misinformation. The state government has decided to take this step to deal with growing digital threats and harmful online content.

The State Cabinet has approved a new AI-driven Social Media Analytics Solution (SMAS) for this purpose. The project will cost around ₹67.20 crore. Officials said the system will help the government track and analyse online activities more effectively.

The tool will monitor social media platforms, websites, and other digital communication channels in real time. It will help detect fake news, hate speech, misleading posts, online abuse, cyber threats, and other harmful content that could create panic or disturb public order.

Authorities said the AI system will quickly identify suspicious or harmful messages and alert concerned departments so they can take timely action. This is expected to improve online safety and protect people from false information.

Officials added that the move will also help maintain peace and ensure responsible use of digital platforms across the state.
