Kerala Governor Resigns as Patron of State Child Welfare Council Amidst Tensions with State Government

Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan, known for his confrontations with the CPI(M)-led LDF government in the state, has resigned from his position as the patron of the Kerala State Council for Child Welfare. Governor Khan cited numerous complaints about the Council’s operations as the reason for his resignation and has forwarded these complaints to the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.

He expressed his disappointment with the state government’s inaction on his requests to address the issues he raised, leading to his decision to step down as the Council’s patron. This development occurs in the backdrop of ongoing tensions between Khan and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, with the latter planning to approach the Supreme Court over the Governor’s refusal to approve nearly a dozen Bills sent by the state government.
