KIA’s Terminal 2, the ‘Terminal in a Garden,’ Commences Operations Amid Acclaim

Kempegowda International Airport’s (KIA) Terminal 2 (T2), dubbed the ‘Terminal in a Garden,’ has begun operations, capturing attention with its unique design. Initially serving domestic flights for select airlines, T2 officially accommodated international flights on September 12, along with AirAsia, Air India, Star Air, and Vistara for domestic operations.

Recognized as one of the world’s most beautiful airports, T2 received the UNESCO 2023 Prix Versailles World Special Prize for Interior. As part of the comprehensive refurbishment program, Terminal 1 (T1) underwent upgrades, including improvements to baggage handling systems, security areas, and kerbside areas.

In addition, Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) is working on a new master plan, anticipating Terminal 3 (T3) by early 2030, and expressing openness to bidding for a second airport for Bengaluru as passenger traffic is expected to reach 90 million by the early 2030s. After incurring losses due to COVID-19 in previous years, KIA reported a profit of ₹528 crore in the financial year 2022-23, making it the most profitable PPP airport in the country.
