M.A. Baby Meets Arvind Kejriwal Before India Bloc Election Commission Discussion

Before an important meeting of India bloc leaders scheduled for September 30 to talk about the Election Commission of India (ECI), M.A. Baby, the general secretary of the CPI(M) party, met with Arvind Kejriwal, the leader of the Aam Aadmi Party and former Delhi Chief Minister, in Delhi on September 27, 2026.

During their meeting, Baby and Kejriwal talked about a report that claimed the Chief Election Commissioner, Gyanesh Kumar, ignored objections from another Election Commissioner regarding a special voter list update process. They also discussed the Enforcement Directorate’s investigation into Pinarayi Vijayan, the former Chief Minister of Kerala.

Baby had recently contacted leaders of India bloc parties and other non-NDA parties to ask for a joint effort to address growing concerns about the Election Commission. Despite past disagreements, Baby also spoke with Mamata Banerjee, the head of the Trinamool Congress party, who agreed that united action was necessary.

After the meeting, Baby told reporters that his main goal was to invite Kejriwal to join a campaign against what he believes is the misuse of central investigative agencies. He pointed out that these agencies had been used against Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia in the past, and now they were targeting Pinarayi Vijayan. Baby also criticized Gyanesh Kumar for acting in an authoritarian way and called for a united effort by opposition parties to expose any wrongdoing.

The upcoming India bloc meeting is expected to discuss the Election Commission’s performance, the voter list update process, and what steps the opposition will take, including possibly asking for Gyanesh Kumar’s removal.
