Man Allegedly Commits Suicide After Village Boycott in Karnataka

In Karnataka’s Chamarajanagar district, a man named Shivaraju (45) reportedly took his own life after being boycotted by his village. The incident occurred in Yadavanahalli in Gundlupet town on Friday. Allegedly, Shivaraju had expressed sympathy for a villager, Shivanna Naik, who had been assaulted by another resident with chappals. In response, village elders imposed a boycott on Naik, and later on Shivaraju as well, claiming he was also involved. A fine of Rs 6,000 was imposed on the victim as part of the boycott.

Shivaraju’s family, friends, and villagers staged a protest in front of the Begur police station, demanding legal action against those responsible for the boycott. The protest concluded after the police filed cases against 17 individuals and assured the demonstrators of justice. Tragically, Shivaraju was unable to bear the humiliation and took his own life.
