Man Dies in Assam After Mob Attack Over Theft Allegation; 14 Arrested

A man in Assam’s Darrang district lost his life on Thursday following an attack by an enraged mob, accusing him of theft. The police reported that 14 individuals have been arrested in connection with the incident. The brutal assault took place in the early hours of the day in the Sipajhar area. Mojibur Ali was severely beaten by the mob after being accused of stealing goats, leaving him critically injured.

Upon receiving information, a police team arrived at the scene and promptly transported Ali to a hospital. Unfortunately, the victim succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Superintendent of Police in Darrang, Prakash Sonowal, confirmed that a case has been registered under relevant sections and that 14 individuals have been apprehended for their alleged involvement in the mob lynching.

This incident echoes a similar case from last month, where a person was fatally beaten and two others suffered serious injuries when a mob attacked them over suspicion of cattle smuggling in the Morigaon district.
