Murder Cases Increase in Bengaluru, Motives Vary

Bengaluru witnessed a rise in murder cases, with 207 reported in 2023 compared to 173 in 2022 and 153 in 2021, according to city police data. The comparative statement of motives for murders revealed sudden and grave provocation as the leading cause, with 49 cases, followed by illegal affairs with 32 cases. Love intrigue accounted for 14 murders, while four occurred due to conflicts in live-in relationships.

Other triggers included previous enmity, domestic problems, disputes over loans/money, and property disputes. Bengaluru also reported 36 cases of dacoity, 673 robberies, 153 chain snatchings, and 5,909 motor vehicle thefts in 2023. The city recorded 1,189 kidnapping cases, with 981 persons rescued, and 631 cases of crimes against children.
