New Baggage Rules 2026 Simplify Airport Procedures

The Government of India has introduced the Baggage Rules, 2026, along with the New Customs Baggage (Declaration and Processing) Regulations, 2026 and a Master Circular for travelers coming to and leaving India. These changes are designed to make airport procedures faster, simpler, and more convenient.

The Ministry of Finance said the new rules will reduce paperwork, increase transparency, and speed up customs clearance at airports.

Under the new system, passengers can declare their baggage electronically, even before reaching the airport, which will save time at customs counters.

Other key benefits include:

Higher general free allowance for passengers’ baggage.

Transfer of residence benefits for those moving to India.

Special allowances for jewellery.

One laptop allowed duty-free for passengers aged 18 and above.

These new rules are expected to make travel smoother, reduce waiting time at customs, and provide more convenience for everyone traveling to and from India.
