NGT Expresses Dissatisfaction with Oil Spill Cleanup in Ennore, Directs Expedited Action

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) southern bench has expressed dissatisfaction with the progress of oil spill remediation along the Kosasthalaiyar river in Ennore and directed the Tamil Nadu government and the Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited (CPCL) to expedite cleanup operations. The bench sought details on the amount of oil involved, removal progress, and measures to contain the oil spread.

Booms, temporary floating barriers, were suggested to be placed at 11.5 km, and the government was directed to seek suggestions from relevant authorities. The NGT advised against engaging minors in cleanup efforts and emphasized the need for protective gear for those involved. The case has been adjourned to December 14.
