NGT tells TN Pollution Control Board strictly about the emission of norms in the Manali industrial area

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board and Central Pollution Control Board to re-examine and strictly enforce pollution control norms in Manali’s industrial area. The NGT’s order comes after a suo motu case based on a 2020 study by Chennai Climate Action Group (CCAG) highlighting air pollution in the Ennore-Manali region.

The study revealed a lack of data in all industries in Manali regarding emissions through the Online Continuous Emissions Monitoring System (OCEMS). The aim is to implement effective measures to control emissions and curb air pollution in industrial areas.

The enforcement of emission norms is crucial to protect the environment and public health. The NGT’s intervention aims to address the environmental concerns raised in the study. The Southern Bench of NGT has taken proactive steps to address the issue and promote sustainable industrial practices.

Strict adherence to pollution control norms is essential to safeguard the well-being of residents and the ecological balance in the region. This order underscores the significance of continuous monitoring and accountability in the industrial sector. The NGT’s directive seeks to ensure a cleaner and healthier environment in the Manali industrial area through robust pollution control measures.
